The author

An Argentinian, he took a degree in Architecture in 1972 at Buenos Aires. From 1966 to 1969 he took part in various productions as actor, stage designer and director’s assistant, still in Buenos Aires.

Brief plot

There is no real plot.

There is a house, of which we see just the kitchen, in which three sisters live: Leonora, the eldest, makes clothes for babies and never goes out; Amalia, the middle sister, who works as a clerk, only goes out to the office; Elisa, the youngest, helps Leonora and runs errands for her occasionally.

We hear a lot about other people, but never see them: their mother, the fourth sister Elvira and her daughter are the most important.

Their life is punctuated by a number of recurrent events: Mass, deliveries to the Bébé Rosa, Amalia’s office, Carnival, going on vacation, the neighbors…

The world is divided in two: outside and inside their home; everything bad comes from outside…

Why I chose this script

I was intrigued when I read it and wanted to understand it better: for me the only way to do this was to put it on.

I liked the situations it creates, the absence of any real story, its ambiguity. It still seems relevant in its themes.

What the structure of the production is

The production consists of eight scenes: variations on the theme.

The scenes or pictures are isolated from one another by music, a sort of sea of sound that opens up to let the variation surface and then sink back again. Recurrent images float above it all.
